Last chance to become part of history
LEWES residents and visitors to Lewes Castle have one last chance to become part of the building's history.
The Lewes Castle Steps Appeal ends on Monday (November 17) and there just a few days left for people to pay for a personal inscription on a commemorative step.
A donation of 500 will pay for a step inscribed with a personal message; the birth of a child, in memory of a friend or even a special message from a school or club.
The new steps are currently being installed as part of the Heritage Lottery funded visitor improvements to Lewes Castle and Barbican House Museum.
So far forty commemorative steps have been commissioned with personalised bricks.
The grant of 985,000 from the Heritage Lottery only partially paid for the proposed works that started on October 13 and the Castle Appeal must raised 85,000 of matching funds from the community to complete the refurbishments.
To find out more about making a donation to buy a step contact Dr Sally White, Lewes properties manager, on 01273 405736, lewes@sussexpast.co.uk.
