Food banks in Lewes have benefited this week from a bumper harvest from the garden of School Hill House, home of Lewes District Council.
Local councillor Stephen Catlin noticed some windfall apples in Church Twitten and wrote to Chief Executive Jenny Rowlands suggesting the banks be worthy recipients of the fruit. She agreed that it was a good idea.
Cllr Catlin said: “I deplore the economic situation which makes food banks necessary, but we must ensure that those in receipt of the donations have as good a mix as possible. Fresh fruit is often out of the reach of those on lower incomes.”
