LEWES: Lewes Late Night Shopping. 3-12-09

The ever popular Lewes Late Night Shopping evening, organised by hard working volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce for more than 30 years, will be held on Thursday December 6.

The evening will open with a light show on the façade of the Law Courts on the upper High Street at 6pm – many thanks to Starfish for putting on the show and to Surrey & Sussex HMCTS for allowing us to use the building.

As always, the High Street will be closed between 5.30 and 8.30pm to allow everyone to wander through the streets in safety, and to enjoy the many street entertainers – including many from Starfish – who will be out and about throughout the centre of town from 6pm onwards.

There will be two main stages for performances in the precinct, and additional performance spaces this year will be on the steps of the Law Courts in the upper High Street, outside Union Music in Lansdowne Place and outside the Nutty Wizard at the far end of Cliffe High Street.

Santa will be in his Grotto at Lewes House – thanks to Lewes District Council for hosting him once more – and hot chocolate and mulled wine will be on sale in the town hall, courtesy of Lewes Town Council.

There will be a Vintage Fair in All Saints, the Friday Food Market in the Market Tower and, of course, many shops and businesses will have special deals, competitions, entertainment or refreshments on offer.

We are raising money for Starfish. Formed in 1998 Starfish is a club for young musicians with around 80 young people attending each week.

They provide the space, equipment and guidance to enable their members to rehearse record and perform their own music.

A new attraction this year is the Snow Queen’s Treasure Hunt – look out for the Snow Queen herself in the precinct on the evening (and outside Harveys during the Farmers’ Market on Saturday 1st December) and she will tell you how to enter the hunt.

The evening will close with Ska Toons on the main stage in the precinct from 9 to 9.30pm.

Join the festivities on the evening, enter the competitions, spot Christmas prezzies you can buy for loved ones, and put something in the collecting boxes to make this year’s fundraising the best ever!

Fingers crossed for great weather – with just a sprinkling of snow!

During the period of closure, all services 28 and 29/29B will operate direct from the Kingston Ridge roundabout via the bypass and Cuilfail Tunnel in both directions to the Tesco roundabout just east of the town centre, where services will drop off and pick up.

The rest of the town centre and bus station will not be served by Brighton and Hove Buses.
