Local BNP members' details revealed

THE NAMES and personal details of 33 alleged BNP members living in the Lewes and Wealden districts have been posted on the internet.

Of those, four are from Lewes, five from Heathfield, four from Seaford, eight from Crowborough and seven from Peacehaven. Willingdon, Polegate, Hailsham, Pevensey and Newhaven all have one alleged member.

The leaked document published online, said to date from 2007, has the names, addresses, jobs and phone numbers of more than 10,000 people.

BNP leader Nick Griffin said on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday that the party would be using the Human Rights Act to try to protect the identities of its members, despite the BNP being against the European legislation.

Earlier this year, the BNP obtained an injunction at the High Court in Manchester banning any publication of the list.

On the BNP website Mr Griffin said: 'A number of members have expressed concern over the "leak" of an old BNP membership list onto several crank internet forums.

'The list is essentially genuine, but has been slightly modified.

'Presumably in an attempt to cause further mischief, it appears that a number of individuals who were not at the time, or who are not and never have been members of the party, have been added.

'The vast majority of names and addresses on it are, however, from the November 2007 membership and skills list.

'We have already sent formal demands to the web hosts to remove the list, pointing out to them the fact that publication of this year-old list constitutes contempt of court because a court order preventing its release or use was made.'
