ARTISTS from Seaford who are taking part in an art festival this summer were this week trumpeting all that the town had to offer.
Artwave, the Lewes district’s annual Open House Festival, promotes local art and creativity by encouraging artists of all levels to open their homes and studios, showcasing their work.
This year the free festival will offer have a go Egyptian dancing, artists exhibiting in an award winning garden and even a photographic exhibition on the beach.
The show is open 10 am to 5pm, each weekend of Artwave ( August 25 to September 9) and the Bank Holiday Monday.
Seaford Open House, at 54 Stafford Road,from 11am – 5pm, will allow visitors to have a go at felting, rag rug making, silk painting, ink pen drawing, Egyptian dancing, Pilates yoga and see a demonstration of woodturning.
Artist Robin Shell said: “As well as having stunning work by 23 local artists and makers, including photography, paintings, ceramics, mosaics, textile art and jewellery, we will also have seated massage, rock ‘n’ roll in the garden shed, delicious homemade cakes and this year we are offering workshops for both adults and children throughout the three weekends of the festival.”

Award winning garden Driftwood, at 4 Marine Drive, in Bishopstone, will feature the work of ten artists, one selected for Threadneedle Prize Exhibition 2012 (visit www.driftwoodartwave.co.uk).
There will also be tea and cakes and light lunches, grand raffle of artists’ work, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Artwave on the Beach at the Seaford and Newhaven Sailing Club headquarters near the Buckle at the western end of Seaford beach, where award winning photographers Kevin Parry and Gay Biddlecombe who are offering framed, mounted prints and greetings cards of local scenes, wildlife, abstracts and seascapes.
Sandra Chessum is the London and French trained artist offering landscapes, still life and unique fruit and vegetable paintings.
There will also be hand painted silk scarves and throws, tapestries and hand made jewellery made of sterling silver and semi precious stones.
