Man and woman die in car crash on B2102 near Heathfield

Two people sadly died following a collision on the B2102 at Cross in Hand between Heathfield and Blackboys last night (Tuesday, October 30).

The accident happened about 400 metres south of the junction with Sheepwash Lane.

At 8.50pm police and emergency services were called to a collision between a Ford KA and a Fiat car.

The driver of the Ford, a 19-year-old woman from Heathfield, died at the scene of the collision and the driver of the Fiat, who is believed to be in his 50s, was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, however he later also died.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Fire crews in appliances from Uckfield and Heathfield attended the scene and one of the victims had to be cut from the vehicle.

The road was closed throughout the night and forensic investigation work continues in the area this morning.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank motorists and local residents for their patience and understanding while we continue to investigate the cause of this collision which sadly ended in the deaths of two people.”

There was another fatal two vehicle crash on the B2102 at the junction with Warren Lane, Cross in Hand on May 17 this year when one man died.
