Man dies in Telscombe Cliffs house fire

A MAN died after a blaze tore through his home in Telscombe Cliffs.

Stephen Love, aged 30, was found by fire fighters unconscious at his home in Carey Down after neighbours saw smoke billowing from the property on Saturday February 4.

Neighbours raised the alarm and fire men broke into the house to try and save Mr Love.

Tragically Mr Love died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton later that evening.

Sussex Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Police said a post mortem has yet to be held.

DI Ian Williams said Mr Love’s death was ‘tragic’ and police are investigating.

He said:: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has died.

“Neighbours were quick to alert the fire service when they saw smoke within the house and firemen broke into make the rescue.

“Together with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service we are investigating the circumstances of his death but are not treating it as suspicious.”

Mr Love was the owner of the house and the only occupant in at the time. Although Police have his address registered as Lawrence Avenue, Eastwood, in Nottingham.

Fire crews wore breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze and used specialist equipment to blow the smoke from the building.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with firefighting foam one main hose reel jet.

“The positive pressure ventilation fan was also used to blow smoke from the building.

“ESFRS fire investigators are currently working hard to identify the cause of the fire.”

Six appliances attended the scene - two from Newhaven, and one from Roedean, Preston Circus, Seaford and Hove.

The fire service spokeswoman added: “The thoughts and condolences of the service are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
