Uckfield Leisure Centre is set to benefit from £850k of improvement works following a joint investment from Wealden District Council and operators Freedom Leisure.

Work will start in February and finish in early autumn. Improvements to the centre include improved parking and access.

There will also be a new entrance lobby and reception which will improve access and reduce customer waiting times.

The cafe will be separated from the hot and humid swimming pool environment with new glazed screening to make it a more inviting place to relax after a workout. There will be a new health suite area with renewed sauna and steam rooms, new cubicles and showers.

The wet change village will be refurbished and will include new ‘walk-through’ changing cubicles and showers. Floors and walls will be re-tiled and there will be improvements to the wet changing facilities for disabled users. Changing facilities for outdoor games and people using the field will also be improved.

Manager Stuart Crawford said: “We are delighted to be embarking on these works which will modernise the centre and improve the quality of leisure facilities for the local community, We will work hard to minimise disruption and to keep all facilities open to the public throughout the duration of the works.”

Community cabinet member Cllr Claire Dowling added: “We hope the improvements will encourage more and more people to make use of the excellent facilities in Uckfield to keep fit and healthy. This will lead to wider benefits for the community, including our local health services. The cost of the work will be met from the Government’s New Homes Bonus scheme.”
