McDonald's safe raid
THOUSANDS of pounds was stolen from a McDonald's restaurant.
Police called to the store at The Drove, Newhaven, at 5.50am on Monday morning by a manager who said around 14,000 had been stolen.
Staff said the restaurant had been left secure for the night and burglars had broken in sometime after the last member of staff left.
They entered behind the drive-through order point and went to the office going in to the safe and taking a large amount of cash.
A McDonald's spokesman said: 'McDonald's can confirm that an incident took place at the Newhaven restaurant on November 17.
'The restaurant was closed at the time and reopened for business yesterday (Monday) morning. We are currently assisting the police with their enquiries.'
Police said there had been a spate of similar burglaries across the south east in recent months.
In August McDonald's in Southampton had a similar theft.
Three burglars used an angle grinder to get into the safe in the early hours of the morning, also on a Monday.
Police are appealing for witnesses. Call DC Des Hamilton at Newhaven CID on 0845 60 70 999.
