Medieval knights prepare to fight at Herstmonceux castle
FINAL preparations are well under way for one of the largest events in the South East when Herstmonceux Castle will witness the battlecry and mayhem of knight battling each other for the annual Medieval Festival.
Now in its 19th year, the festival promisses a colourful spectacle from August 27 to 29.
The stunning setting of the magnificent 15th century moated castle is transformed into a living history encampment populated by more than 1,000 medievalists in authentic garb from all over the world.
Experience two set battles daily, with their stunning array of heavily armoured knights fighting it out to the death against a deafening background. Theatre Royal Brighton presents a taste of King Arthur in ‘Spamalot’ - Monty Python’s unique and humerous interpretation of the period.
See crafts demonstrated and savour the sights, sounds and smells from the medieval kitchens conjuring up authentic fayre. Hear tales of courtly love and chivalry. Rumbling 21st century tums will be appeased via a medieval style tavern and hogs roasting over open coals. Award winning ales have also been promised at the event.
Opening times are 10am to 6pm daily.
Costs: £3.50 single £5.50 return / Child £2 single £3 return, 3 yrs and under free.
