MICROLITES GROUNDED
HELLINGLY residents are pleased a scheme to allow microlites to take off and land near the town has been thrown out.
An application to store and fly microlite mini aircraft from Broad Farm has been refused by Wealden District Council.
The bid to operate the business was retrospective and planes had already started using the small landing strip which runs parallel to the A267.
People living nearby said the planes flew low over farmland terrifying wildlife and invading their privacy and security as flyers could look at the entrances and exits to homes.
Chairman of Hellingly Parish Council, David White said: 'The parish council and the overwhelming majority of our parishioners will be delighted to learn that this application has been turned down.
'No-one wants to put a stop to other people's enjoyment but what is enjoyment for a few often creates a great deal of disturbance for the many seeking to relax and enjoy their own properties at a weekend and during the summer evenings.'
