New Uckfield medical centre opened today

Uckfield’s new state-of-the-art medical centre opens (today) Monday (February 18).

The Meads Medical Centre will open its doors and welcome the first patients into a brand new building.

Building work on the centre by the West Park recreation ground started last summer and has been completed earlier than scheduled.

The 10,400 square foot, two-storey building is set in landscaped grounds and has 35 car parking spaces. It has been developed by healthcare premises specialist MedicX based in Godalming, Surrey.

The new surgery contains 11 consulting rooms, a pharmacy, two treatment rooms for minor surgical procedures and one nurse consulting room.

Now the GP practice of Dr Walbrook and Partners in Grange Road is relocating to the new premises. Dr Emma Walbrook, senior partner at the centre, said: “We are delighted with our new medical centre which provided much-needed modern premises for the practice to operate from and has been long-awaited by the local community. As a predominantly rural community, providing a medical centre that is easy accessible by both car and public transport was vitally important to us.”

MedicX director Tony Coke said: “It has been a pleasure working with the team in making this project a reality. Modern healthcare centres that can be delivered within budget and provide value for money are essential for local communities and we are confident users of this new centre will be thrilled with what has been achieved.”

The Meads in Uckfield is the third new medical centre to be opened in North Wealden in the past 12 months. New centres opened in East Hoathly (October) and Buxted (May.)
