New wave of purse thefts in Worthing

THERE has been another spate of purse thefts in Worthing - with vulnerable people being targeted.

Five purse thefts have been reported to police this week after being stolen while people shopped at various places across the town.

Sergeant Ian Kerr, of Worthing Police, said: "Heartless villains are out there targeting vulnerable and elderly people by dipping their purses.

"It is a heinous offence."

A woman who uses a wheelchair had her purse stolen from her coat pocket while she was shopping in Waitrose in High Street at 10am on Sunday, June 28.

Another woman, who was helping a wheelchair user, had her purse taken while she was in Boots in Montague Street on Saturday, June 27 during the morning.

Charity shop

Two elderly women has their purses stolen while in the British Heart Foundation charity shop in Chapel Road on Tuesday, June 23.

One purse theft happened at about 11am and another was stolen at 11.45am.

The second purse stolen was black and contained a pension book, bus pass and cash.

On the same day, another woman had her purse stolen while she was in the Scope charity shop in Chapel Road.

At 5pm that day, a woman had her handbag stolen while she tried on shoes at New Look in Montague street.
