A TRADITIONAL breaking of the ground ceremony was held at the site of a new 55-bed care home in Five Ash Down. Buxted Parish Council clerks Malcolm Wilson and Beccy Macklen were welcomed by Denise Craig, the first staff member appointed to work at the home which is being run by Barchester Healthcare. A recruitment drive across a wide range of disciplines from nursing to administration is taking place. On average a new care home creates around 100 jobs.

The home, due to open this autumn, will deliver nursing and residential care services as well as dedicated dementia care which aims to encourage people living with dementia to stay as independent and active as possible.

The home is outside the village and is designed to be a warm, welcoming place, surrounded by landscaped grounds.

MalcolmWilson said: “This will provide many welcome jobs for the people of Five Ash Down and surrounding communities and we look forward to its completion.”
