Newhaven firefighters to run marathon in costumes

FIREFIGHTERS from Newhaven will be running the equivalent of the New York Marathon in costume.

They will carry out their challenge at the Lifeboat Fete dressed as Fireman Sam and fire safety character Welephant.

The stunt is designed to raise money for a trip to the USA where they will run the real New York Marathon for charity.

It will support the Fire Fighters Charity which enhances quality of life for serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.

Greenwatch will be taking it in turns to jog on a running machine at the fete on Saturday July 4.

Firefighters will also have a display area at the event and will be offering important safety advice.

The fete starts at 1pm on Huggetts Green, West Quay, where admission is free.

What do you think about the marathon? Will you be attending? Leave a comment below.
