Newhaven Lifeboat launched twice in two days to broken down vessels

NEWHAVEN Lifeboat was called to the rescue of a fishing boat with one person on board near Telscombe Cliffs.

The volunteer crew launched on Saturday September 1 at 1.25pm to a 20ft Colvic fishing boat which had broken down.

The skipper was uncertain of his exact position so the lifeboat was given a range and bearing from the Newhaven Coast Watch team which had a visual on the vessel.

The lifeboat was tasked to a Fisher motor boat on Sunday September 2 at 11am whilst out on exercise.

It had broken down with one person on board one mile south of Cuckmere Haven and was unable to anchor.

The boat was on route from Eastbourne to Brighton when it experienced a mechanical failure.

Once on scene at both services Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland’ established a tow and the vessels were taken safely into Newhaven Harbour.
