Birling Gap Safety Boat Open Day. April 9th 2012 E15145N The Newhaven Lifeboat returns to base after exercise with Coastguard helicopter is called off.

Volunteers from Newhaven’s RNLI lifeboat station were launched on Friday October 19 at 3.10pm to a vessel which had suffered electrical failure 2.5 miles south west of Newhaven breakwater.

Newhaven’s all-weather Seven Class lifeboat RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland were given a course to steer by the Newhaven Coastwatch, who was keeping an eye on the casualty vessel, which was drifting to the west with two persons on board.

The lifeboat proceeded on the bearing and the 24ft Culvic fishing boat was soon spotted.

Once on scene a tow was established and the casualty was then safely returned to Newhaven Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 4.35pm.
