Plumpton Racecourse this week unveiled exciting plans for the venue during the 2013 season.
Total prize money is to increase by 37 per cent, from £476,000 to £652,000 this year.
A new feature race of the year will be introduced on Easter Sunday – the £25,000 totepool Sussex Champion Hurdle. Prize money at the showpiece Easter Racing Festival will be £108,000, double that of 2012.
The Come Racing for £10 campaign will pull in the punters during February, March and November. Plumpton Racecourse Chief Executive Claire Sheppard said: “Plumpton offers a great value day out and the new campaign will reward existing racegoers with a discount offer for their loyalty, and hopefully attract new customers to experience all the entertainment of a day’s racing here.”
The summer will see an upgrade of the parade ring, winner’s enclosure and main entrance, while a new twinning arrangement has been organised with Pompadour Racecourse, near Limoges in France.
Racecourse Director Adrian Pratt said: “The directors are delighted to announce the increased investment at Plumpton across both the facilities and prize money to enhance the raceday experience of our customers and to support the racing industry. Our Chairman Peter Savill and I are committed to the future of the course and the important role it plays in the grass roots of jump racing.”
Lewes MP Norman Baker said: “It is great Plumpton Racecourse is in such fine fettle and I welcome these developments. Plumpton is an important local facility in my constituency and an important local employer, as well as being a friendly and attractive country racecourse.”
One of the most compact National Hunt racecourses in Britain, Plumpton is an undulating, tightish left-handed circuit of just over a mile. Racing started there in 1884.
