Open gardens event to be a first for Peacehaven
If you have ever wanted to show off your garden to the community and you’re a Peacehaven resident, now is your chance.
Peacehaven Town Council is staging its first Open Gardens following on from the success of its popular Garden of the Year competition.
It will give visitors the chance to look around beautiful and well kept gardens, while the owners can talk about how they achieve their impressive results.
Assistant town council clerk Steve Keogh said: “For the past few years Peacehaven Town Council has organised a Garden of the Year competition which has proved popular with residents, however people have been disappointed that they cannot see the winning entry except through pictures in the council magazine.
“It was decided that an Open Garden event would provide the opportunity for residents to visit attractive and well managed gardens and give the owners the opportunity to discuss how they achieve the results they are, rightly proud of.”

Peacehaven Horticultural Society started discussions with the town council about the event and invited Paradise Park to be involved, they have agreed to sponsor the event, providing posters, flyers and support.
In addition there will be a market and ticket office open in Community House on Sunday June 30 with stalls selling a variety of gardening themed items, such as plants and seeds, plus there will be a coffee morning.
The open garden event is taking place on the weekend of 29/30 June 2013, with tickets available at Paradise Park and the Town Council Offices.
Cllr Helen Livings, who has been an ardent supporter, since the inception of the gardening competition, said: “There will be a small charge for the tickets and this money will go to charity.
“It is hoped that as the visitors go to each garden the owners will pass on their knowledge and explain how they manage to keep the gardens looking so good, despite the winds and salt air.”
The council is looking for people who are willing to open their gardens to visitors during the weekend.
If you would like to be part of the event contact the town council offices.
The closing date for entries is Monday April 1, 2013.

The town council is planning to donate the money raised from the event to Care for the Carers, an independent charity which supports unpaid carers in East Sussex, who look after a relative, friend or neighbour, who is frail, disabled, and has a long term illness.
This was selected after the town council was made aware of carers in Peacehaven in need of some support.
The Garden of the Year contest in Peacehaven is now in its fourth year.
Peacehaven Horticultural Society members will be helping at the event by manning stalls in Community House.
