Orchard branches out

IF a Knobby Russet doesn't tickle your taste buds how about the fleshy delights of a Crawley beauty?

Both Sussex varieties of apple could be added to an old orchard that may have been planted during the Dig for Victory campaign in World War Two.

The orchard lies in an oasis of tranquillity in the Scrase Valley Nature Reserve in Haywards Heath.

Volunteers are helping to turn what has become a jungle into a productive orchard for the community where anyone can pick the apples.
