Paralympic photocall in Newhaven
Sainsbury's store colleagues, Pauline McCormick, Seamus Swords, Jill Hopson with Dave Faulkner and Maxin e Hu-Sang from Searchlight.
THE TIME when 5,000 Sainsbury staff saw their first Paralympic sports in London was marked with a photocall at the Newhaven store.
A ‘Moment in Time’ at 10.45am last Monday (September 3) celebrated both the Paralympics, which Sainsbury sponsored, and the recent Seahaven Paragames by inviting residents from Searchlight, residential, day care and respite centre for adults with physical and/or learning disabilities, for coffee and cake to share their experience with staff.
Graham Amy, Mayor of Newhaven, joined Searchlight residents and Sainsbury’s staff.
Store manager Angus Murray said: “I was delighted we were able to sponsor the local Paragames held in August at the Downs Leisure Centre, Seaford.
“It was great to see how much the participants gained from taking part and I wanted my colleagues at the store to hear all about it from the ‘horse’s mouth’.”
Cllr Amy said: “It was great to hear Searchlight residents talking about how much they enjoyed our local event and participate in a small way with the largest Paralympics to date.
“Enabling everyone to be part of the community is hopefully a legacy.”
