Party On The Beach for 'Hope 08'
The sounds of the Caribbean drifted over Hastings Beach on Saturday with an open air performance by the Croydon Steel Orchestra.
The concert on the stretch opposite St Mary-in-the-Castle formed part of an afternoon of activities organised by local churches working together under the banner 'Hope for Hastings and St Leonards'.
The day also included a puppet show by Sue Bodkin of Puppet Productions, team games led by retired Baptist pastor John Crew, and a range of arts and crafts, face painting and balloon modelling, as well as a traditional sandcastle building competition.
Event co-ordinator and university chaplain Revd Dr Richard Mortimer said: "The sunshine and music created such a happy atmosphere people were just stopping to listen and then joining in all the activities.
"Two coaches brought families from the outer estates, where transport can be a problem, so the event was as inclusive and welcoming as we could make it."
Hastings MP Michael Foster, councillor Phil Scott and Mayor Maureen Charlesworth were among those who attended.
