PLUMPTON will be celebrating the Queen’s 60 years on the throne in right royal gastronomic style.
The village is to publish a Diamond Jubilee Recipe Book, featuring recipes with a royal flavour provided by local residents and a foreword by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
She grew up in Plumpton, where her family lived for many years, and is remembered fondly by many of its older residents.
The book is to be launched at 4pm on Saturday, June 2, in Plumpton Village Hall, Station Road, by the Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex, Deborah Bedford.
This is much more than a recipe book. Find out which member of the Royal Family camped with the Pony Club on Plumpton Racecourse; what goes into Prince William and Prince Harry’s favourite salad; who ate breakfast with Prince William on a flight to Manchester; and who tweaked the Queen’s favourite strawberry shortcake recipe (and won royal approval for his temerity).
Find out who was invited to one of The Queen’s Garden Parties and why; who made bread with Prince Charles at Highgrove; which member of the Royal Family rode in the Mad Hatter’s private sweepstake at the racecourse; who taught the Duchess of Cornwall to drive; and who cooked scampi for the Duchess of Kent at 35,000 feet above sea level.
The Plumpton Diamond Jubilee Recipe Book was originally conceived as a book of recipes associated with royal events such as the Queen’s Coronation and the Silver and Golden Jubilees. But it quickly evolved into something more – stories of Plumpton people and how their lives have been touched by members of the Royal Family and the story of a village community in the Jubilee year.
From the Big Boy’s (bubble and squeak) Breakfast to Bobotie and Onion Salad for a ‘braai’ on Buckingham Palace lawn, the Plumpton Diamond Jubilee Recipe Book is packed with recipes to delight the palate of everyone, royal and commoner alike.
The book is illustrated with watercolours by village residents, including Jeanie Muddle, Sue Petty and Lyndsey Smith.
