Police warning about marathon

THE HALF marathon organised by NPS Lions takes place on Saturday June 7 in Seaford.

It will take in spectacular views over the Weald including the South Downs, Alfriston and the Cuckmere Valley.

Anyone interested in signing up should register on the morning of the event in the Rugby Club.

Event spokesperson Miriam Hanna said: 'All the money raised by our fundraising activities goes towards our services and activities in the community.

'Our aim is to help the less fortunate in our society with our activities concentrating on the needs of the local community.'

No special clothing is required, but the weather can change suddenly on the Downs and along the coast.

Water will be available at checkpoints.

Limited changing and showering facilities will be available at the club.

Refreshments will be on sale at the club and the bar will also be open.

A trophy presentation takes place at the Rugby Club at 11.30am.

The event is open to runners, joggers and walkers and will go ahead whatever the weather conditions.

To comply with AAA rules all runners must be 18 or over.

Under 18s can enter as a walker but must be accompanied by an adult or guardian, who accepts full responsibility during the event at all times.

First Aid will be provided by St John Ambulance on the day.

Dogs are welcome, but must be kept under strict control at all times.

The race starts at 9am and finishes on the sea front opposite the Salts

recreation ground.

Sussex Police are urging drivers using the A259 to be patient during the marathon.

The will impact on two locations.

Firstly between 9am and 9.30am at the junction between marine and the buckle by pass.

Then at the Exceat Bridge between 10am and 12.30pm.

Uniformed police officers will be at these locations stopping traffic between these times.
