Four hundred girls aged from five to seven from units across East Sussex marked a quarter of a century of Rainbows with a party of fun activities at Blackbery Farm, Whitesmith on Saturday, September 29.
The girls enjoyed a special 25th birthday party where they saw farm animals, had pony and tractor rides, petted small animals and played in the playground.
The girls also chose a number of exciting activities from the Rainbows Big Birthday Challenge pack including decorating a card, a chopstick challenge, making a boat out of paper and floating it, face painting, hook a duck and a treasure hunt. As well as learning new skills and competing fun tasks they will all receive a special 25th birthday badge for their hard work.
The day ended with a giant cardboard cut-out cake and helium balloons while girls ate their own cake and sung some songs to finish the day.
Hannah, Lily and Olivia from Lewes said they liked all of it. Ruby and Rosie liked hoiding the animals and Tabitha said the sun was kind and warm.
Jessica from Crowborough said: “I’ve had a super, super day.” Katrina from Denton said: “The big slide was fab.”
Sandra Punchard, Girlguiding East Sussex Rainbow adviser said: “The weather was fantastic and the Blackberry Farm staff were brilliant. Many of the Rainbow leaders said how helpful and knowledgeable they were. It was a great way for the younger girls to come together and have the chance to party as well as make friends and have fun.” Rainbows were founded in 1987 for girls from five to seven (except in Northern Ireland where they can join at four.) Many Rainbows continue the fun and go on to become Brownies once they turn seven.
