The trial of Richard McGarvey Martin, 19, of Heath Way, Horsham, concluded on Friday August 29, at Lewes Crown Court.

Judge Richard Brown sentenced Martin to life, with a minimum tariff of 15 years, for the murder of Horsham teenager Ricky Butler.

Martin was also found guilty of unlawful wounding.

Fifteen year old Ricky died last November at St. George's Hospital, Tooting, having been attacked earlier outside a flat in Gorringes Brook, Horsham.

DCI Hibbert, of Sussex Police's Major Crime Branch, said after the verdict: "Any unexpected loss of life is a tragic event, but what compounds this tragedy is the fact that Ricky was only 15 years of age.

"He had his whole life ahead of him and this has been cruelly taken away by the senseless act of Richard Martin."
