ROYAL VISITOR TO OPEN SKILLS CENTRE

Uckfield is in line for a royal visit this month when The Duke of York is in town to visit two successful businesses and take a tour around the Wealden Skills Centre.

On Tuesday 21 February, The Duke of York will visit two Uckfield businesses to help celebrate their export achievements. The two businesses are TR Fastenings (recent winners of the Sussex International Business Award) and Gunnebo Entrance Control Ltd.

His Royal Highness will be welcomed to the County by the Vice Lord Lieutenant, Mr Peter Field, who will represent the Lord Lieutenant on this occasion.

The Duke will also perform the official opening ceremony at the Wealden Skills Centre, which offers a range of vocational courses to the whole community.

The new Centre, on the Bellbrook Estate in Uckfield, runs courses in construction, motor vehicle maintenance, carpentry, brickwork and painting and decorating in four dedicated workshops.

The Prince will receive a presentation on the benefits of the flexible learning programme and have an informal discussion with the representatives of the partnership who worked together to set up this community resource – the first of its kind in the Wealden area.

His Royal Highness, accompanied by the Vice Lord Lieutenant, will also go on a tour of the Centre, meeting students, tutors and invited guests, who will include the High Sheriff of the County, Mr David Tate; before being invited to unveil a plaque which will be engraved with the following words:

"The best way to see the future is to create it"
