A marathon runner has completed a gruelling two-day challenge with a little help from Micky Mouse and a host of Disney characters.

Jeannine Williamson took part in the 39.3 mile long Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney World in Florida, USA.

The 55-year-old raised nearly £1,300 for the equine charity Brooke Hospital by completing a half marathon followed by a full marathon.

The charity helps working horses, donkeys and mules in the world’s poorest countries. She helps look after a horse at Primrose Farm, Arlington,

Mrs Wiliamson trained for four months before completing the challenge in a combined time of six hours 53 minutes.

She said: “It was a fantastic event as it was the 20th anniversary of the Disney Marathon and there were costumed characters all around the course which took in parts of the various theme parks including the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot, where the races started and finished.

“The full marathon was a real challenge because although it started very early by the time the sun came up it was incredibly hot and there were long stretches without shade. But having the entertainment at every mile really helped and there was really enthusiastic support from crowds lining the routes through the theme parks.”

The keen supporter of the Brooke has taken part in fundraising horse treks in Egypt, Jordan, India, Mongolia and Iceland in aid of the charity and ran the London Marathon in 2011. The Brooke provides veterinary care and advice and education to owners who often rely on a working animal for their entire family income.
