RYE actress Philippa Urquhart will be sharing he love of forgotten Victorian ghost stories when she gives a special presentation at Rye Museum this month.

The event, which takes place at the East Street museum on Friday March 15, is part of the of the Women and Children of Rye Project.

The evening is intended to encourage others to write their own short story and invites all creative writers who may be interested to attend the free event.

Philippa, who will perform extracts from three Victorian Ghost novels as starting point for discussion says:“I am fascinated by stories written by Victorian and Edwardian authors, such as Guy de Maupassant, Mary Braddon and E F Benson, which are totally engaging.”

The Women and Children of Rye Project is a Heritage Lottery funded project, working in partnership with Rye Museum, Rye Partnership and the local community to raise awareness of the restoration of the Women’s Tower and to engage the community in a wide range of activities.

Philippa starred in the BBC series Tenko and appeared in the film Children of men.

Speaking of her fascination for ghost stories, she said: “Telling a story to a group of listeners definitely gives me as much of a tingle than when I’m performing on stage or screen.

“There’s a wealth of these stories, many of which have been forgotten, but they are definitely worth reviving.”

The Project is inviting creative writers to write a short, Victorian style story that could be developed into an audio book for sale at the museum in time for the launch of the Women’s Tower in June 2013.
