Scrap metal goes up in flames

MORE than 200 tonnes of scrap metal went up in flames at a scrap yard near Heathfield yesterday (Monday).

Emergency services were called at 11.21am and 40 firefighters manning six pumps from Burwash, Uckfield, Hailsham, Crowborough, Barcombe and Eastbourne attended the site at MJD Light Brothers yard at Three Cups.

The main road was closed and trafic diverted. Crews left the scene on Monday night but returned to ensure it was safe and conduct an investigation on Tuesday morning.
