Seaford open gardens events will raise money for charities
Garden in Buckthorn Close, Seaford.
If you like having a look at what other people have done to their gardens then you are in for a treat this summer with seven new private gardens opening up for charity.
As well as the old favourites, Geoff Stonebanks, of Driftwood, 4 Marine Drive, Bishopstone, has inspired some newcomers to join in.
First up is Roger and Jane Bullock’s garden, an integration of flowers, fruits and vegetables at 1 Buckthorn Close.
This is one of a combination of five gardens opening for the National Gardens Scheme from June 15 -16.
It will also open on June 23 for the Mayor’s Garden Trail when a further three never before opened gardens will be among the nine on show.
Helen and Dave Roberts, at Wyndover, Chyngton Lane North, are opening their plot overlooking the South Downs National Park.
Joining them will be Sheila and David Thomas, of 14 Lullington Close, their garden nestling at the bottom of Seaford Head.
Then there is the courtyard garden of David Ward and Jonathan Milne, at 11 Steyne Road.
On June 30 Debbie Hibberd will open 4 Sunningdale Close, where the sound of water helps create a feeling of tranquillity, along with Geoff’s own award-winning garden, Driftwood, in aid of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
Three new gardens in Seaford will open for the Macmillan Coastal Trail, on August 3 and 4, along with 20 gardens from Brighton to Eastbourne.
Amongst them will be 27 Rookery Way and Martin Neil’s ongoing experiment to discover what will thrive in a coastal garden.
Joining him will be Loretta Nolan’s garden at 10 Victor Close, which has opened before, but quite a few years ago.
Visiting gardens raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, St Wilfrid’s Hospice and the NGS, whose main beneficiaries are Macmillan & Marie Curie.
