Secretary needed for Seaford Hard of Hearing Club
A club which organises visits, talks and meetings for the hard of hearing is appealing for a volunteer to step forward and become its secretary.
Seaford Hard of Hearing Club said its secretary had retired and it needed a replacement to support its work.
The group also runs lip reading classes and has provided a vital lifeline to the community for more than 50 years.
Club honorary secretary Brian Carter said: “Unfortunately we have no succession within the club as a result of our quite elderly membership.
“Despite that it is extremely important that the club continues to exist for the benefit of these older people, many of whom have sight and mobility problems in addition to impaired hearing.”
The club meets monthly on the first Friday of every month at the St James’ Clubhouse in Blatchington Road, Seaford, from 2pm to 4pm.
It is a friendly group, with a membership of 50 and aims to create a social environment for those with hearing difficulties.
The work of the volunteer secretary would be administrative: preparing and producing a monthly newsletter, arranging committee meetings and preparing minutes and agendas, arranging monthly transport for less able members, dealing with funding applications and correspondence.
A knowledge of Microsoft Word and an affinity with older people, in particular those with hearing loss, sight impairment and mobility problems, would be ideal. Call Brian on 01323 898628 or email bcaret29@btinternet.com
