Seven parking meters blasted during Bonfire
FIREWORK arson has caused nearly £6,000 worth of damage to parking meters in the past week.
Seven meters were hit in just four days and all were wrecked by rook-scarer fireworks.
East Sussex County Council, which manages the unpopular parking scheme, tried to restrict the vandalism by removing all the meters in the High Street prior to November 5.
Contractors also put protective metal casing round other meters in areas where large crowds were expected on Bonfire Night.
Although no meters were damaged on the Fifth, six were damaged in the run up to the celebrations and another was targeted the following day.
Four damaged meters were discovered on November 1.
Two of these meters were in Pelham Terrace and the two others were located in North Street and Brooks Close.
On November 4 two more damaged meters were discovered in Phoenix Causeway East and Friars Walk.
The last damaged meter was spotted at 1pm on November 6 in Prince Edward's Road.
The estimated cost of repairs is 5,900.
