Slideshow - Waldron Village annual steam rally
Hundreds of steam buffs - as well as people who just enjoy a good show - packed the narrow High Street in Waldron on Sunday for the village’s annual steam engine rally.
More than a dozen steam driven traction engines, steam rollers, threshers, a steam-driven fairground organ and classic cars and motorbikes lined up in the lanes while their oil-bespattered owners and drivers enjoyed a pint of Harveys at The Star. Many were accompanied by their children, dressed for action in miniature versions of an engineer’s overall.
Star Landlady Debbie Lefort and chef Paul Botting manned the barbecue serving up burgers and hot dogs to a healthy and hungry crowd.
Dramatic entertainment was provided by SkullDrummery who marched through the village centre.
Some of the steam engines had come direct from Saturday’s open day at Tinkers Park, Hadlow Down where two ex-London Transport buses provided a free connecting service to the site. During the day people rode on a narrow gauge and miniature passenger railway, visited the organ museum and admired veteran cars and vintage engines.”
