SNOW: Snow causes chaos across the county
Heavy snowfall has caused chaos across the county with problems on the roads and public transport.
East Sussex Council's fleet of gritting vehicles worked through the night on Thursday but there are current numerous tailbacks across Lewes and Wealden districts.
Traffic is flowing through Lewes Town Centre but it's extremely slow going on the A27 Lewes due to ice and snow between Southerham Roundabout and Kingston Roundabout.
The A259 Eastbourne Road Seaford is also moving very slowly after an earlier accident between Chyngton Lane and Old Willingdon Road, there are also reports of ice on the roads in the area, and very slow traffic on the South Coast Road stretch of the A259 in Peachaven.
Traffic is also heavy on the A26 in Crowborough and the A265 in Heathfield.
A spokeswoman for East Sussex County Council said its snow ploughs were out in force but were being hampered by abandoned vehicles.
Some trains are still running but ice is causing cancellations and long delays across the Southern network.
Sussex Police has asked people to stay at home and has warned the problems could get worse.
Superintendent Steve Barry, said: "The good news so far - it seems that people have taken heed of the weather warning and the general advice to stay off the roads unless really necessary. It also seems that those who are driving have been doing so with proper care.
"The bad news - it is due to get worse today. We continue to encourage people to stay off the roads, particularly around rural areas and hills. If you do drive, take it very slowly and carefully. Pedestrians should also take care when crossing roads as vehicles need longer stopping distances in this weather."
