Still time to enter the half marathon

PLACES are still available in the South Coast Half Marathon in Seaford on Sunday, August 15.

The scenic run is now in its fifth year and sees competitors race up along the seafront for 13.1 miles.

For those who find the prospect of a half marathon a little daunting, there is a much more manageable 10k and 5k race.

Last year's men's event was won by David Thompson who finished in a time of 1:14:19 and the women's was won by Kaeti MacKenzie in a time of 1:31:05.

Budding runners who think they can beat those times have been signing up all year, as well as those who simply want the achievement of completing a half marathon distance.

With just over a week to go, the numbers are rising fast but there are still plenty of places left.

Race organiser Vic Bickerton said: "Last year's race saw almost 700 people taking part so we expect this race to be even bigger.

"The forecast has given good weather for the weekend so we're confident it's going to be a roaring success."

The course will include both road and cross country running.

The race kicks off at 9am with the start and finish at the Martello Tower.

It will be a weekend of sporting competitions for Seaford – a triathlon is being held on Saturday, August 14.
