SUSSEX remains on alert for heavy rain and showers today (Tuesday September 25) and tomorrow (Wednesday September 26).
The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings of rain for both days and is warning the public to take care.
It said further rain or showers, heavy and persistent in places, were likely during today.
The rain will be accompanied by gales and possibly severe gales for a time.
The public should remain aware of the potential for further localised disruption due to heavy rain and very strong winds.
More heavy rain or showers is forecast across southern England during Tuesday night and Wednesday.
The public should be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding.
Much of the southern half of the UK saw between 30mm and 50mm of rain during Sunday.
Met Office chief forecaster Steve Willington said: “A deep area of low pressure moved north from the Bay of Biscay over the weekend and will persist over the UK until the middle of the week.
“Everyone should be prepared for the effects of heavy rain and strong to gale force winds as they combine to bring the potential for travel disruption and localised flooding over the next few days.
“We encourage the public to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings for their area on our website and with forecasts on TV and radio during this unsettled spell.”
Yesterday gusts were predicted to reach 70mph along the coast, and even today looks set to be windy, with gusts of 40mph likely along the coast.
