Students highlight humn trafficking

HUMAN trafficking issues were highlighted on what was possibly the coldest night of the year.

Passionate and determined girls from St Leonards-Mayfield School decided to sleep out all night on December 12 with nothing but cardboard boxes and sleeping bags to raise money and awareness of the problem.

The girls, part of the school's Action's Not Words group, were taking part in the sleep-out in aid of the Medaille Trust, a Catholic charity founded by an inter-congregational group of priests to support and help, women, young men and children who have been freed from sex trafficking.

Georgina Nunan (17,) Rebecca Reid (16,) Felicity McDonald (16,) Sophie Lawes (16.) Ashley Welsh (16,) Sophie Baldwin (16,) and Charlotte Nuthall (16), along with Chaplain Sarah Adams felt compelled to help after a visit from Sister Margaret Gallagher, showed them a distressing film following events in the life of a child who was trafficked.

The girl's are also in the process of making a film to highlight the issues.
