Students asked to design logo for historic events

LEWES District Council is inviting local secondary schools to take part in a competition it has just launched.

The theme is “Celebrating 2012” and students are asked to design an image that will be used as part of the council’s community activities to celebrate the historic events taking place this year – the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Olympic Torch Relay and the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Cllr Tony Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for budding artists to design an image that will be used across the district to promote their work and be used as part of the council’s PR activities.

“Students can be as creative as they wish to depict the theme of ‘Celebrating 2012’. It is up to each participating school to choose and submit one piece of work in three age categories.

“We are working in partnership with local communities and organisations to celebrate sporting and cultural activities taking place between May and September to promote a sense of community pride and cohesion.”

The design/image must be an original piece of colour artwork and must be received by the council no later than 3pm on March 15. Each participating school should submit one chosen piece of work in the following age categories: Under-14 years, 14–16 years, 17 years plus.

The winner will be chosen in April by a panel of judges.
