Summer school eases transition to Seaford Head School

A WEEK long summer school was held at Seaford Head School for Year 7 students to help them improve their literacy and numeracy skills.

The school staged activities designed to help the pupils settle into secondary school life and also aimed at having some fun.

They spent a day at Herstmonceux Observatory, where they combined team challenges and science.

On return to the school in Arundel Road the following day, students wrote a news story about their visit, which was judged by Eastbourne Herald and Gazette editor in chief Keith Ridley.

The end of the week was marked with a celebration event.

Students prepared invitations, made cakes and refreshments, decorating the hall with their own hand painted canvases.

All parents commented on how successful the week had been and how they hoped it would run next year.

English teacher Daniel Martin said: “The whole week was worthwhile and a great success, particularly in striking the right balance between literacy/numeracy work with more creative sessions.  All in all, an amazing and worthwhile week!”

Transition coordinator Katrina McGuire added: “I really enjoyed being involved with Summer School and it was great to see the students on their first day and for them to tell me they had really enjoyed summer school and had fun! You can’t ask for more!”
