Peacehaven and Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby has held another meeting in Parliament with representatives from the Rugby Football Union to make the case for Brighton’s bid to host matches during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
A decision on host venues for the tournament will be made in the coming weeks, and Brighton’s Amex Stadium is amongst those under consideration.
After the meeting Mr Kirby said: “The Rugby World Cup is the third biggest sporting event in the world, and it would be fantastic for the city of Brighton and Hove if we were to host part of this monumental occasion in 2015.
“Add to that the enormous potential of Brighton as a vibrant and engaged host city and I believe you have a recipe for success.”
There are many excellent bids and Brighton and Hove is up against some very stiff competition.
“However, I am assured following my meeting that the RFU are very aware of the strength of this application and it is being very seriously considered.
“We will know the outcome of the selection process in the coming weeks.”
