Thieves steal elderly man’s rings in Hailsham

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man had rings stolen from his home in Hailsham.

The rings were taken from the home in Chestnut Avenue after the 97-year-old owner went out briefly to a shop.

The man did not lock his door and returned to find the jewellery missing, police said.

The incident happened between January 7 and January 9.

Detective Constable Richard Davidson said: “The owner saw two men outside his home when he went out and we would like to trace them to see what they know. One was about 20 and 5ft 8in with short straw-coloured hair. He was wearing an orange top.

“The second man was 20 to 30. Whoever took the rings has preyed on the pensioner’s vulnerability and left him very upset. If you saw or heard anything, or recognise the description of the men, please contact us.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 704 of 10/1, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
