Thousands of potholes already repaired
MORE than 12,000 potholes have been repaired in the past four months, after efforts were doubled to tackle the problem.
Snow and ice has caused thousands of holes and cracks to appear in roads across the county and motorists have been left fuming at the damage caused to their cars.
The problems are caused by freezing and thawing water, which causes cracks in road surfaces to appear and widen.
Highway contractors May Gurney have introduced a 'seek and fix' approach to repairing potholes and have doubled the number of teams working on the cracks in the county's roads.
To deal with the unprecedented number of potholes, the ESCC is sending out more than 20 maintenance gangs at a time.
Steve Ashman, general manager for May Gurney, has called on members of the public to let them know where the potholes are.
He said: "While we are making every effort to repair potholes as efficiently as we can, we will still rely on members of the public to report any problems
"Potholes can be particularly dangerous to road users in the dark, when potholes cannot be seen and are a key cause of vehicle damage.
"So we urge local residents and road users to report any pothole problems they spot as soon as they can."
