Tighter controls on pet boarding firms with licence launch
A scheme to bring animal boarding businesses under tighter control will be rolled out next year.
From January 2013 all home boarding businesses will require a £75 annual licence from Wealden District Council. A license will be granted subject to an inspection.
The move will bring home boarding in line with kennel and catterys who pay £130 a year for a license.
The council claims it is introducing the licence to provide peace of mind for pet owners who use home animal boarding services in the district.
Cllr Claire Dowling, cabinet lead for the community and voluntary sector, said they wanted to promote the highest standards in animal boarding.
She said: “Owners will be reassured to know that their pets are being cared for in premises which have been inspected and meet recognised animal welfare standards.”
