Tory councillor to face standards committee

A leading councillor could face disciplinary action after being hauled before a standards committee.

Tory Councillor Matthew Lock faces allegations of compromising the role of council officers and using staff in a party political way.

The hearing follows a complaint that in the run-up to the county council elections last June, Cllr Lock, who holds key roles on both Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council, used local council officers to investigate complaints about street lighting in Clinton Crescent.

Despite strict rules in the period before elections, it is alleged he credited Simon Corello, the Tory councillor for the ward, for bringing the problem to his attention and boosted his campaign.

The committee may impose punishments including official censure and suspension.

The hearing is at 6pm on Monday at the Town Hall.
