Town Team launch date for Hailsham announced

A NEW ‘Town Team’ will be officially launched this month to progress business for Hailsham High Street with the support of various parish organisations.

The new team, formed by the Business Development Committee of Hailsham Town Concil, will be officially launched at the new Civic Community Centre in Vicarage Field, Hailsham, this Friday, September 14.

Enthusiasm to launch the team followed a Government report commissioned by Mary Portas, TV’s ‘Queen of Shops’ which examined high streets across the country.

Wealden MP Charles Hendry is scheduled to introduce the exciting Hailsham event - outlining the Government’s aspirations in a speech looking at economic regeneration and town revitalisation initiatives.

Before the launch of the event, Mr Hendry expressed his support.

He said: “I am delighted that Hailsham Town Council has taken this step to create the new ‘Town Team’.

“Throughout my visits to Hailsham I have seen the work that the town council is doing to help revitalise the town and its town centre.

“The creation of this team will help create a strong vision for the future of Hailsham and ensure that new innovative ways are found to boost business and bring people in.”

Talks will also be given on related subjects by Anton Bree, the chairman of Hailsham & District Chamber of Commerce, and town Cllr Nick Collinson, who is chairman of the Business Development Committee.

An open forum will follow to discuss and answer questions concerning the Town Team’s vision, objectives and action plan with representatives from East Sussex County Council, Wealden District Council, East Sussex Federation of Small Businesses, Hailsham & District Chamber of Commerce, Hellingly Parish Council and the local youth community.

Cllr Nick Collinson said since the ‘Town Team’ was first discussed, a small group of passionate local business representatives, economic regeneration officers and others have been determined to make a difference.

Cllr Colinson added: “There is a common perception that our town centre as it used to exist won’t necessarily be the future of Hailsham, so we need to look at other ways of revitalising the town and bringing people in.”
