TRAIN PASSENGERS ON THE BUSES

Uckfield and Buxted rail commuters have been using buses this week because of problems with the line at Hurst Green, south of Oxted.

Services have been disrupted because engineering work on Sunday to replace points went wrong.

Work was delayed because the fittings brought to the line did not fit.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: 'We do not know why they did not fit or if they were broken on the journey.'

The old fittings have now been put back and work will recommence at a later date.

Uckfield passengers were taken to Haywards Heath to catch trains on the main London to Brighton line.
