TV date for award winners

When TV personality Fred Dinenage presented awards to members of Chichester's Wrenford Centre they were surprised to find out he had bought a camera crew along with him.

The six award winners, who had completed a Mencap Gateway Award bronze certificate, all attend the centre in Terminus Road, which provides a day service for people with a learning difficulty

To achieve the certificate, they had to either pursue a hobby for a minimum of six months, do some volunteer work or help a charity for 20 hours.

They could also take up a physical activity for 20 hours, complete two lifestyle changes to enhance or improve independence or undertake an adventurous journey.

Hobbies included swimming and walking the Nevada Mountains, while the volunteer section included helping local churches with gardening.

Instructor Rona Gregory said: "The service users wrote to Fred to ask if he would present the awards and they were delighted when he responded saying 'yes'.

"He even brought a camera crew along and the awards featured on Meridian News. It was a wonderful experience."

Receiving an award from Fred were Richard Allan, Paul Howard, Rose Perkins, Jan Notley, Lynda Searle and Rhona Hill.
