A series of road works on the A22 Hailsham by-pass are set to start next moonth.

Motorists face two months of distruptions when major resurfacing works between the Boship roundabout and Cophall roundabout.

East Sussex County Council is carrying out the work in three stages between Monday, February 4 and Sunday, March 31.

Cllr Carl Maynard, Lead Member for Transport & Environment at the County Council said: “When we complete this work the road will be much safer for drivers to use. However, while the resurfacing takes place traffic delays are inevitable, especially during peak times – we’re really sorry for the disruption and we’re suggesting people allow extra time for their journeys.”

The work is being done in three stages:

* Stage one is preparation work which will take place from Monday 4 February until Saturday 16 February.

* Stage two will involve road resurfacing from Sunday 17 February until Sunday 31 March.

* Stage three takes place on Saturday 23 February and Saturday 9 March when the roundabouts will be resurfaced overnight.

A contra-flow system will be in operation to manage the traffic during the work.

East Sussex Highways (a partnership between the County Council and contractors May Gurney) will be carrying out the work.

If you have questions about the work phone 0345 60 80 193 – Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5pm and on Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. A message can be left outside these times.

Updates on the work, including any changes to the schedule due to the weather, will be posted on Twitter: @esccroads and #hailshamnews and signs on site will also provide updates.
