Two-minute silence for blast factory firefighters
FIREFIGHTERS mourned the death of two colleagues who died an explosion at a firework depot two years ago on Wednesday.
Brian Wembridge, 63, and Geoff Wicker, 49, died while tackling a fire at Festival Fireworks at Marlie Farm in Shortgate, near Ringmer.
Nine other firefighters, a police sergeant and two members of the public were also injured in the blaze.
A two-minute silence was held at fire stations across the county at 2.42pm to mark the exact moment the explosion took place.
Martin Winter, 50, and Nathan Winter, 23, the owner of Festival Fireworks and his son, have both denied manslaughter in connection with the death of the two firefighters.
They pleaded not guilty Lewes Crown Court on October 2 and a trial is expected to take place in June 2009.
